what you fail to realize is that video games shouldn’t cater to females in the first place. It’s largely known that it’s targeted towards the MALE demographic and has been for so many years, so why would they ask for something like that to be handed to them on a goddamn silver platter?

that’s like a guy walking into the women’s department of clothing at a sears and demanding that there be more clothing for men there. Separation of sections be damned.

and when you ask the cashier where the women’s clothing section is, they wheel out a small rack of cheaply made tutus, g-strings, and high heels all in bright pink

and then when you go “wow really that’s it” you get called an uppity bitch and everybody assumes you want all the focus on you when in reality you’d just like to be considered a worthwhile demographic since you also like to wear clothes, it’s not like you want some ridiculous getup, you just want a solid shirt and pair of pants that fits you alright.

I mean hell you even sort of like men’s clothes and you have no problem wearing them. They suit you well. But it’s very obvious once you throw on a pair of men’s pants that they were not made for you.

The Nu Project is a no-glamor honest look at beauty and image in our world.

Female nudity isn’t hard to come by in the media, but the bodies we see usually represent a fairly limited scope of sizes and shapes. The Nu Project, a collection of nude photographs shot by Minneapolis photographer Matt Blum, seeks to add some variety to the mix. Blum started The Nu Project in 2005 but said it really took off when his wife, Katy Kessler, became the project’s editor. Blum sees the photos as filling a void. “When I started shooting nudes there was no project like it,” he told The Huffington Post in an email. The things that I had seen either used models with typical model bodies or average people who were made to look extremely unimpressive. I figured there was a way to treat women (of any size/shape) like models and photograph them beautifully, respectfully without a lot of sexual under or overtones. The women photographed are all volunteers, and most of the pictures are taken in the subjects’ homes — where they feel most comfortable. The Nu Project’s website showcases six galleries of nudes, three shot in North America, three in South America. Although Blum told HuffPost that he feels that they have a “good variety of people involved,” he and Kessler acknowledge on The Nu Project website that they’d love for the subjects to be more diverse. “The hardest part for us is that the project is 100 percent volunteer, so I do not see the women until I show up at their door,” Blum writes on the website. “We’re doing our best to encourage all types of women, but we need volunteers of all backgrounds and walks of life to make the project more complete.” Blum said he ultimately hopes that these images inspire the women who see them to feel better about their own bodies. “It’s been really exciting to hear people react to the images,” he told HuffPost. “We get a lot of feedback from women (especially) who have struggled to see themselves as beautiful, and this project has helped them on that path.”

Long post ahead, so I’ll put it beneath a read more. c: If you are interested in knowing who I am, I was the Abaddon on Friday, Lucifer for most of Saturday (and Sebastian Moran briefly during the evening), and you barely saw me there on Sunday and no one got my picture so it really don’t matter, but I was Kevin and I had a cute Edd with me. c:

Okay now on to my con experience.

So I left Grand Rapids for Rosemont at 6am. Surprisingly, I didn’t sleep at all during the car ride there, despite having only gotten two hours of sleep the previous night. A+ for me I guess wow. We arrived in Rosemont at about 9am, got into our hotel room, and I quick did some makeup before heading to the vendor’s hall to get a wig to finish my Abaddon cosplay (which, by the way, was really frickin weird to do because I was wearing press-on nails, and I am so not used to having long nails omg). I finally met up with Ren (dressed as a super attractive Dean Winchester) and Dani (who is the cutest Adachi ever) after having spent like, an hour and half trying to run into each other. We transferred them to their new hotel since apparently the hotel they were in was overbooked??? idk. We got food after because we were starving. But once all of that was done, we headed to the vendor hall again, where I FINALLY MET JAMIE LIKE IRL I MEAN I THOUGHT THIS GIRL WASN’T REAL UNTIL I MET HER HI BABE. So Ren, Dani, and I hung out with Jamie, Vocea, Kristy, and Katie and we chatted with Tobie and Zhelly for a little bit. Ren dashed off after a little bit for her own personal reason which I will not divulge because that is not my place, but Dani, Jamie, Vocea, Kristy, Katie, and I were hungry so we were headed to the cafeteria for food. We didn’t make it out of the vendor hall before I just had an emotional breakdown over unforeseen info and I started sobbing, but Jamie and Vocea both started singing and saying silly things to make me laugh and smile and god bless them. So we make it to the cafeteria, and Jamie becomes THE BEST CON MOMMY EVER. Because she bought me ice cream to make me feel better. ;o; But, there were more tears because Kristy lost her wallet ( :ccc ), so we got her some food and we headed back to their hotel room to look for it after we were joined by this really cute Kevin whose tumblr I don’t have ( Bl ). To sum this part up, it was all tears (like we were flooding the room because holy crap estrogen) and trying to make each other laugh and be happy again. By then it was around 6pm so I started the 15 minute walk back to my hotel to change into Sebastian Moran, because Ren was being Moriarty! However, when I got back to my hotel, I broke down again and I just felt really dumb and stupid and fuck-it-all, so I texted Ren saying I was gonna rest for a little bit and then change. When I woke up, I had some pizza that my roomies ordered, but afterwards I was just still feeling like shit, and that turned into a whole explaining I was just an emotional wreck, and Ren being the best friend you could hope for in that moment; she told me to just stay in my hotel room and go to bed and sleep and get better, and I honestly couldn’t have been more thankful. She was really understanding and that meant so much to me. So I did just that; I went to sleep.

The next morning I woke up pretty refreshed. I wasn’t super duper happy, but I was feeling much better than I did the night before. So I showered and got into my Lucifer cosplay and headed over to Ren’s hotel to finish up my makeup, and to have a place to drop my bag off at. Ren was dressed as Gabriel and holy crap she was adorable, and Dani was dressed as Nat. We headed to the vendor’s hall to get Ren a wig for a Persona shoot that Ren and Dani were going to at midnight, and after that we went to a Persona panel for a little bit. We then left and got Starbucks which I had to fight Ren into letting me treat her to. And then it was time for Dani’s photoshoot with Katie, which was a total blast. Katie is such an amazing photographer and you should book her sometime. When that was done, Dani went off to hang out with their Ed, Edd, and Eddy group, and Ren and I went back to Ren’s room to touch up our makeup before the big Supernatural photoshoot. Unfortunately, there was a minor panic attack, because Ren’s $40 tie pin for her Moriarty cosplay went missing. So we started to tidy up the place at least a little bit, but then we headed to the shoot, which was fun, and we forgot about the missing pin for a little bit. We weren’t expecting such a huge turnout! And then I FINALLY got to see Jack again, who was a really great Castiel. ;u; Nothing super interesting happened at the shoot, but it was a good time. ;o; So after that, Ren and I went back to her hotel room to try to look for her pin again, and the rest of her roommates were there and we were able to convince them to tidy up at least a little bit. We eventually did find her tie pin (it somehow got behind the curtain despite the fact that it was on the dresser originally and nowhere near the curtains???) so thank goodness for that, I was really relieved for her. Since that was cleared out of the way, I added some fake blood to my arm because I had a photoshoot with Katie soon, too! And that was a lot of fun, despite the fact that I got attacked by mosquitoes when we went down into the river area behind a parking garage. But I previewed the photos, and they looked AWESOME. I managed to catch the very end of the BBC shoot, wherein Ren was now Moriarty, and after that, we headed back to Ren’s hotel again so I could change into Sebastian. Dani was changed into Edd, but they were still wearing their Nat/Adachi contacts, so they looked really creepy and Ren and I kept calling them “Azazel Edd.” I don’t remember /too/ much of what happened afterwards other than meeting up with some friends outside the Hyatt, and then going to get dinner. We met up with A really cute fem!Lock and a John Watson, and we just sat and chatted and ate, until we decided to all go to the fountain underneath the convention center, where we met up with Jamie and Vocea again, and Jack! So there were just some shenanigans going on until it got really dark, and Ren and Dani walked me back to my hotel because they are sweethearts. <3 I wasn’t up for too much longer after returning.

Sunday was a slow start for all of us, but I put on a genderbend Kevin so I could meet up with Dani, who was being a genderbend Edd. We didn’t actually get to see each other/hang out until ~12:15, I think? I saw Ren before that, but we both just headed back to her hotel to fetch Dani, and they both dropped some stuff off in their car before we just wandered around. I actually had to leave at 2:00, so I had to head back to my hotel to meet up with my group at around 1:30, so I could make it on time. So really, nothing honestly happened too much on Sunday. I said bye to all my friends ( :CCC ) and headed back to my hotel. My group then all piled into our vans, and we made a stop at Mitsuwa, where I got some delicious-as-fuck food, and a few items and A MAGAZINE FULL OF KITTIES. We left Mitsuwa at 4, and that was the end of our trip.

So yeah, the con definitely had its ups and downs. I’d give it a 7.5/10 for overall experience, mainly because of my emotional breakdown on Friday, the panic attack over the lost tie pin, and the fact that my feet are fucking killing me because my hotel didn’t provide a shuttle service to and from the con. The ups were definitely getting to see my friends, though, and I can’t wait until next ACen. c:

Blood Falls, a Natural Time Capsule Containing a Unique Ecosystem

This five-story, blood-red “waterfall” pours ever so slowly out of the Taylor Glacier in Antarctica’s McMurdo Dry Valley. Geologists first discovered the frozen waterfall in 1911, and believed the red color came from algae. Its true nature turned out to be more spectacular.

Roughly two million years ago, a small body of water containing an ancient community of microbes was sealed beneath the surface of the Taylor Glacier. Trapped below a thick layer of ice, the microbes have remained isolated inside a natural time capsule, in a place with no light, oxygen, or heat.

The trapped lake has very high salinity and is rich in iron, which gives the seepage its red color. A fissure in the glacier allows the microbial subglacial lake to flow out, forming the falls without contaminating the ecosystem within.
